My goals for 2017

So it has been another year and 2017 is fast approaching. These are the goals that I have decided and set for myself for 2017.

  • Make 100k during 2017

Now you might be thinking woah, this is a really big goal. Yeah it is, it’s going to be a big challenge trying to achieve this and it seems absolutely crazy if I can reach this. But that’s what goals are about! Being large enough to scare you and it will be insane when you achieve it!

What I intend to do to reach this goal: Finish up on my course and launch it soon. I will possibly look to create another course next year. I am also in the process of drafting an eBook so that is another source of income once completed. I will continue to look for investment opportunities in the markets and look for new venture opportunities next year. A 100k is a lot but a year is a long time, so I am excited for this!

  • A new challenge every 3 weeks

I find that I get very passive about life if I am not trying to get out of my comfort zone and push my boundaries. This is a method I am going to undertake to encourage myself to get out there and do more new stuff. I’m going to aim to do something new every 3 week and mix up my routine

What I intend to do to reach this goal: Look to my interests and passions, look at activities that always intrigued me as a kid but I didn’t managed to try.

  • Read 26 books

Books are great for learning, there’s no way around it. The more you read, the more knowledge you get. I did attempt this during 2016, but I only managed to get to 16. I am determined to achieve it during 2017.

What I intend to do to reach this goal: Just keep reading

  • Regular updates to

So my last goal is definitely going to be about my website! It has been an amazing experience and wonderful learning process since I begun my website. The challenge of starting my own website felt very daunting after I realized the amount of work I had to put in. I decided to just keep focusing on the next step and I kept telling myself it’ll get easier over time once all the basics are set up.

Even though I am still in the process of improving and learning new tips on what I should look out for to improve my website, I am still very proud of myself for how far I’ve come. But one of the most unexpected takeaways from this, I didn’t know of the Personal Finance community online.

You can be a mom, dad, retiree or anybody but there is a very strong and welcoming community online for PF bloggers. I’ve met people who are really nice and seen how close some of them are. This was really unexpected, I just thought it would only be about writing and posting articles online. However nothing really beats the joy of seeing new comments on what you write. Huge thanks to everyone who left comments or shared my stuff, you know who you are!

What I intend to do to reach this goal: 2017 is probably going to be a pretty busy year, but I am still going to aim to write a new article every week and I intend to continue to share any great article that I come across!

So these my goals that I will be focusing on for 2017 and I like the idea of having goals as they will give you something to aim for and a direction of where you’re headed. But before I move onto 2017, I would like to say that I am thankful for everything that has happened in 2016. All the lessons that I’ve learnt whether good or bad and all the experiences that made me a wiser and better person. 2016 was pretty amazing and it’s time to close a great year but I am ready for whatever 2017 is going to bring at me!  So let’s all get to work and make 2017 our best year yet!

Let me know in the comments below what are your goals for 2017 and why did you picked that goal? Thanks again for reading!

  1. Good luck with your goals. Your courses and ebook sound exciting. I don’t know very much about courses but it seems some people first offer a short introductory course, and hope to turn those who attend into paying customers. Either way we’d be happy to put a small ad for your course on our site (for free, no affiliate compensation).

    Happy new year to you!

    1. Thanks so much, I really appreciate the offer Mrs G!

I intend to publish my course on a online platform so I’ll take a look and see how the ad can be done. I am not too sure about this kind of stuff. Anyway if you would help me share my course when it’s out, that would be more that enough!

Happy new year to you as well!

  2. I think giving yourself a new challenge on a regular basis is a fantastic idea! Definitely should prompt some personal growth! I may borrow that one from you :).

    1. Hey Daniel thanks and go ahead! I think its a great way to break routines.

  3. Great goals, T! Reading books is a goal I have as well…finding the time is challenging, but I LOVE a great book. I am so glad you have found the pf community! Isn’t it fantastic!? My absolute favorite thing about the blog is my blogging friends – everyone is sooo supportive and kind!

    1. Hey Amanda, yeah its indeed hard to find time. I am just going to take it slow and do my best.

Yes, I totally agree! The PF community is indeed amazing and super super supportive!

  4. Good luck in 2017! I have a couple ebooks in the back of my mind but don’t have the resources to promote them right now…Putting them on hold while I figure out how that works.

    1. Thanks! I haven’t really looked at the promoting part yet but I am sure I can find a guide online. Best of luck in 2017 to you too!

  5. It is great that you shared your goals…. I understand the difficulty of sharing goals with a large community because you are now held accountable to achieve them – which, is actually a good thing. Good luck on your 2017 goals! I look forward to seeing your weekly articles.

    1. Hey thanks a lot! Yeah it wasn’t easy. I had a bit of apprehension before writing this post. But like you said, it makes me more accountable for these goals and this will be another factor to push me to get them done!

  6. A little late catching your 2017 goal post but I like it. Mr. Need2save is a huge believer in setting new goals. It def. Is why he was able to finish several marathons.

I am looking forward to hearing more about your ebook.

Also what kind of books? Mr. N2s likes non-fiction but I like fiction. We both like retirement and personal finance books.

    Here’s to your 2017 accomplishments

    1. It’s never too late, we’re just getting started in 2017!

For my eBook it’s probably going to be more of a business ideas kind of book. Still in the early stages currently. Oh, I like fiction books as well!

  7. Great goals for the year. 100k definitely sound like a huge goal.

You have to put in a lot of creativity and hard work. Money is a result of the value you give to society.

Don’t stop hustling! Enjoy the ride and have fun. 😀

    1. Indeed it is! I might not get there but I know that as long as I keep working hard, I’ll have a chance!

  8. […] on my tasks that I set for myself. Completing all of this will also take me one step closer to my goals. Of course this is not that easy to accomplish because sometimes motivation is hard to come by. I […]

  9. Hey T,
Good luck on your goal to reach 100k. You could do a lot with that.
It’s definitely true what your said about the support blogging community. I couldn’t agree more.
Also, good luck on your posting schedule of 1 per week. I haven’t been blogging consistently enough lately and am now aiming for 1 a week as well. I’m your forward to reading more of your blog in 2017.

    1. Hey Graham, thanks a lot and thanks for checking in!

Yeah, it’s a pretty crazy goal of mine, 100k. I’ll do my best to achieve it and if I don’t, hopefully I’ll land somewhere near there! I am also trying to keep up with my “1 post a week” habit, I am aiming for more of a consistent effort rather than hitting it. I realised life is always going to throw me curveballs so I’ll do what I can!
